Military Mindset

    Dale Kowalczyk served his country in the United States Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Navy Seabees, as an Equipment Operator Petty Officer First Class. That’s where he learned the fundamentals about dirt work and the basic principles of construction for roads, heavy highway and all things flatwork for commercial projects. As 20-year retired veteran, Dale credits his time in the Navy for helping to shape his work ethic, stating, “The military built my character and that gave me a maturity level that was a lot better than most.”
     After retiring from the Navy, Dale was a union laborer for a heavy highway company where he worked for nearly nine years. With his strong work ethic, unflappable dedication and in-depth knowledge of commercial work, he rolled that experience into his own business, forming DK Concrete LLC in 2007. Regional Reputation
    DK Concrete is a certified service-disabled veteran-owned business specializing in residential and commercial flatwork, sidewalks and reinforced concrete. Dale, along with his wife, Jeanne, built a strong reputation in the industry, servicing a 100-mile radius around the Minnesota metro area.
    Since 2007, Dale has transformed his company from a two-person operation (Dale and one employee) to a thriving small business that has seen annual revenue grow tenfold with multiple crews and employees now numbering around ten—just where Dale wants it. He speaks with great pride of his crews, sharing, “We are close-knit and everybody does the same type of work. At any given moment, one or two crews are ready to take on any job. He adds, “Everything is done in-house—the bidding, the building, all of it. It’s a very family-oriented business.”
